In my book, Unwritten Political Rules, I explored how power, leadership, and community development operate behind the scenes. Today, the most critical “unwritten rules” affecting our future are no longer just being drafted in traditional political corridors—they are being coded into algorithms.
The transition toward Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) is moving at an unprecedented pace. We are seeing transnational tech companies holding resources that rival sovereign nations, and some countries are already creating isolated regulatory models to attract these developers. If we leave the governance of this powerful technology to fragmented, isolated agendas, emerging economies and local communities will be left to navigate a world shaped entirely by others.
As the Kenya and COMESA Region Chair for the ACE Global Leaders of Excellence Network, I am incredibly proud to champion a monumental new initiative. ACE Global Bridges of ACE Health Foundation and the Diplomacy Center Foundation have officially launched a joint initiative to examine and architect the global governance frameworks necessary for recursive AI.
This partnership is a critical intervention, and here is why I am driving this conversation forward for our region:
- A Seat at the Global Table: Technology of this magnitude cannot be governed by a few tech hubs. Our joint initiative calls for a unified, multilateral alliance—ensuring that diverse global perspectives, including those from Africa and the COMESA region, are central to the dialogue.
- The Push for United Nations Action: We are actively supporting the call for a special session of the UN General Assembly specifically on AGI, alongside the establishment of rigorous national licensing frameworks.
- Neutral, Cross-Sector Dialogue: We are moving beyond pure tech advocacy. By operationalizing a neutral structural bridge, we are convening tech visionaries, diplomats, and business leaders to focus on objective fact-finding and cooperative international agreements.
As our Chair of the ACE Global Leaders of Excellence Network, Ms. Pooja Chandra Pama, always says: privilege is a responsibility. Whether in local community development or on the global geopolitical stage, leadership requires us to step up and guide these massive shifts. We cannot allow the future of AGI to be dictated by regulatory arbitrage or isolated national interests.
Managing self-improving AI is a shared human mandate. I am honored to work alongside the visionaries at ACE Global Bridges and the Diplomacy Center Foundation to ensure that as this new frontier is built, it elevates our communities, aligns with our deepest values, and leaves no region behind.
